Choosing a Business Consultant
Choosing the right business consultant is important if you want to achieve the right results for your company.
Here are some helpful tips to help you choose the right consultant:
• Check if the business/ management consultant is registered with the Institute of Management Consultancy. This will ensure they follow the institute’s code of conduct.
• Decide if you are looking for a specialist or general consultant. A general consultant will be able to look over many different aspects of your business and offer advice, and a specialist consultant can offer advice on a particular area you need help in.
• Prepare an outline and brief of the areas you need your consultant to help you with. Establish how many consultants you will need to help with individual areas and what the fees for their services are.
• Try to appoint a consultant who has been recommended to you by a friend or business associate. Make a shortlist of prospective consultants, ask each one what they feel they can offer your company and obtain references of recent clients.
• Ensure that you get along with and are confident with your business consultant, and share mutual understanding about the future of your business. Check qualifications and make sure you have a written contract before you commence work.
